Friday Fit Tip – Are there negative calorie foods?

Friday Fit Tip- Negative calorie foodsIMG_20150731_073312

There isn’t really any negative or zero calorie foods. But some foods make our bodies work harder and burn more calories in order to digest those foods, then they contain, thus making them negative calorie. These foods are good for you and they are easy to prepare as well. When I was losing my weight I ate a lot of these foods and I really think it helped me. Often my breakfast and lunch would mostly contain these foods.

Here is the list for these foods

FRUITS                                                                                                  VEGETABLES

Apples                                                                                                  Asparagus

Blackberries                                                                                       Beets

Cantaloupe                                                                                         Broccoli

Cranberries                                                                                        Cabbage

Clementine                                                                                      Carrots

Grapefruit                                                                                           Cauliflower

Guava                                                                                                   Celery

Limes                                                                                                    Cucumbers

Oranges                                                                                               Garlic

Papaya                                                                                                 Green beans

Peaches                                                                                              Kale

Pineapple                                                                                           Lettuce

Raspberries                                                                                       Radish

Strawberries                                                                                   Spinach

Watermelon                                                                                     Tomatoes

Zucchini

Weather you believe it or not, you may want to give these foods a try and see if they will help you. I think anything that doesn’t need you to buy something that is way overpriced, with a big promise that it can do what nothing else can, is worth a try. These foods are natural and not really expensive so go to your favorite farmers market or grocery store and pick some up. You may find out you really like to eat fruits and vegetables. Food is always better the way God made it, so go for the apple not the apple sauce, fresh not canned.

So enjoy eating your fruits and vegetables and be healthy and happy. Have a great weekend with your family and friends.

Lev. 25:19

The land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and dwell in it securely.

Lottie Moon 5K Walk/Run September 12, 2015

Who was Lottie Moon?

Charlotte Diggers Moon, also known as “Lottie Moon”-the Namesake of the international missions offering and has become something of a legend to us. In her time she was like today’s missionaries. She was a hard working person, she loved God and everybody. Tirelessly, she worked hard so that people would hear about her savior, Jesus.

She was born December 12, 1840 in Virginia and she died December 24, 1912 in Japan. She was a missionary to China for almost forty years. She was  fluent in six languages, but she was an expert at Chinese.

Lottie followed her sister to China when she was 33 years-old. Her sister left after she arrived to go back home because of her waning health. She started teaching in a boy’s school. She wanted to reach out to women but because she was single she didn’t have the freedom to yet. But God did open that door for her.

She sent out hundreds of letters in order to raise awareness for the need of money for missions and missionaries. One of her letters started the first Christmas offering for the  international missions, this raised enough to send three new missionaries to China.

She encouraged Southern Baptist women to raise money for missions and to make known of the great need for more missionaries, both male and female. Lottie Moon was a generous person; she started a school for girls, she gave her food to starving people, she gave her life in service to God and the people of China.

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offerings raises half the entire Southern Baptist mission’s budget each year. Every penny of the offering goes to the International  Mission Board’s overseas budget, thus supporting hardworking missionaries and their work. 1400757_653505651350063_1847434186_o The Greenville Baptist Church, Lottie Moon 5K run/ walk was the first run I participated in, through it I learned that I could run a 5k without dying in the process. And this is when my husband started to run along with me, he didn’t run in the race but he did all the training runs with me. I didn’t run by myself thank goodness, I was so worried about it, my son William ran with me and has run every year since. Also the following year my husband and several of our children ran as well, we would like to see more of our children love to run and be active.LM2014 Greenville Baptist Church has been holding this run/ walk for the past five years now. The turnout has been good; all the money goes to the Lottie Moon offering. Come join us in this fundraiser, you will help raise money for a good cause and have fun in the process. You may even learn that you really enjoy the sense of accomplishment you get from a good run / walk. I know I always feel good after a good run with friends and family. Come and join in the fun,  put it on your calendar, September 12 , 2015, cause if you are like me it will be forgotten. Hope to see you there.lottie moon runners https://www.facebook.com/gbclottiemoon5k

How to make cauliflower rice – a healthy alternative to rice.

How to make cauliflower rice, a healthy alternative to rice.IMG_20150723_162823

I really love this cauliflower rice it is awesome. It’s great for you, no carb, low fat,  and a low glycemic index. Did I say it taste great too.

It’s really easy to make, you wash the cauliflower.

Now you cut it up and put it into your chopper.IMG_20150723_162315

Then you chop it, be careful and don’t chop it too long you want it to be about rice size.IMG_20150723_162823

Next you put it into a bowl with about 1 teaspoon of water cover and cook on high in the microwave for about four minutes or so. It all depends on how much you are making and how soft you want it. I cooked half a head and it was enough for four servings plus a lot of taste samples and some leftovers.IMG_20150723_163012

It is ready to enjoy,  you serve it as you would rice, stir in whatever you would like in it, or cover it with your favorite stir fry. When I made this batch all I did was put in a little butter some garlic and parmesan and it was amazing quite a few of my  children loved it and told me next time to make more of that and not to make the rice. In short this stuff is great and is good for you and even kids will eat it. So it looks to be a winner.

Friday Fit Tip-Don’t forget to reward yourself

FB_IMG_1437736756890Rexi getting his reward after his first 10 k

One of the things that really helped me to stick to my diet was that I had one day a week to eat those foods that you want to, but know you shouldn’t. You need to give yourself some rewards for all the things you are putting your body through. It’s not easy doing with less than your body needs, in order to burn what we have stored for later. Sunday was my free or reward day, because that is a day of the week that almost everyone is home. and it is one of those days I try  to make a nice meal along with desert, woo ho!

How it helped me is that when I would really be craving something and feeling my will power fading, I would just say to myself that you can wait another day then I can have it. Then I would drink some water or eat some almonds or drink a diet cherry coke, the coke was not my best option, but better than that ice cream in the freezer. Than I wouldn’t  feel all the guilt that goes along with the diet- cheating, which often discourages us so much we give up and think we can not do it. I was always looking forward to my reward day It’s nice to have one day a week that your not always thinking about the calories or how many miles I would have to run to burn off those calories.

Really how much can you eat in one day, that it would hurt a whole week of eating right and exercising. Not to mention that the family is all there and will you really eat only ice-cream and cake with them all looking at you, with wide eyes saying ” BUT  MOM you won’t let me only eat cake and ice-cream EVER”. If the kids want a second piece of cake just say yes and if there is still some the next day let them eat it for breakfast. Believe me you want it out of the house as quick as possible, so it won’t be hindering your goals. Or you may want to make smaller desserts so you won’t have it around so long plaguing you.

Seriously, I think it will help you, as it did me. I’m not trying to lose weight anymore but I still try and save most of my splurging to that same day. What we really need to be doing is making life changes so we can achieve our goals and then maintain them. Remember if you fail, that’s ok as long as you never stop working at your goals. You will accomplish them if you always forgive yourself and continue at it. After all we are only human and it is really hard at times, I can’t tell you how many times I gave in and ruined a week’s work. You can always get back on track quickly, as long as you persevere, and say yes I can do this, I’m worth it! I hope in some way this will help you. And don’t forget to reward yourself, you deserve it.

Ruth 2:12

The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!.

pretty bowl covers

IMG_20150709_153927I love these bowl covers they are so much easier to use than plastic wrap. They can be washed and dryed, you could make them with  You can get fabric to match your dishes or kitchen. After I made these I thought it may be nice to have a different fabric for each bowl so it’s easier to find the right cover in your drawer. But it would be harder to get them all to coordinate well together. You can make a tag to sew on the inside to mark them if you want. I may start to do that.

I bought a half yard of fabric. You could buy a piece of fabric that is about six inches bigger than your biggest bowl. Or you can just buy a whole yard and make more than one for each bowl. You can also make them for serving platers as well. But it depends on how many you wat to make.

First you need to wash and dry your fabric. You may also need to iron it.

Now you need to cut your fabric about two inches larger than the top of your bowl. I taped a pencil on to a spool of thread and traced the bowl; it worked well enough for me. Mine ended up bigger than two inches but that’s ok it gives more room to play with.IMG_20150709_133828IMG_20150709_133940

Next you need to cut out the circle you just traced.IMG_20150709_134117

Then you should iron over a small amount of the fabric over.IMG_20150709_135034

Now do the same again and then sew it.IMG_20150709_135559IMG_20150709_135210

Now you need to take your elastic and wrap it around the top of your bowl, and cut it about two inches smaller than it takes to circle the bowl. So it will fit snug.

Then you need to sew the elastic to the fabric circle you have, you should put it on your bowl to make sure you will sew it in the right place. Stretch the elastic as you sew it on try and not stretch it to much as it will be too tight or just look off it may end up being straight in some places and to puckered in others. Make sure you back stich so it will be strong.IMG_20150709_140022

Now cut the strings and put on your bowl. That’s all not hard; it only takes a few minutes each bowl. IMG_20150709_142853IMG_20150709_153927
