One of our goals this year was to run an official half marathon. We have been training for it for quite some time; I sure hope we are ready. We planned on running in the Soldiers Half Marathon; this is held at Fort Benning. The run is on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 7:30, it snuck up on us, and we only have a few short days left to prepare for it. I hate it when time passes by so fast sometimes.
This is where Wesley, are oldest son went to boot camp, it should be fun to run some of the same roads he did. But we won’t have to carry all the gear that he often had to carry. I was thinking about wearing a pair of his boots to run in but he told me not to, that they would hurt my feet , so there went that idea, he is right his feet were pretty messed up after boot camp. But he was very strong, and we were and still are very proud of him.

The run starts and finishes at the National Infantry Museum, if you haven’t seen it yet you should think about making a trip there to see it. I think anyone would enjoy it.

They have a relay Marathon you can enter as well if you want to run but don’t think you can do the whole thing. You can have a team of two to four runners, I think that would be fun, we may have to do it one day, but I feel for my team as I’ll probably be the weakest link.
They also have a Soldier 5k, Soldiers Kids Marathon that you could participate in if you would like.
They will have water stations at mile 2.5 and about every two miles until the end so you shouldn’t have to carry your own water for this run.
There will also be GU supplement (Energy Gel) spots the first at mile 6.2, then at mile 10, mile 15.8 and mile 18.5.
If you have someone you would like to track on the run and they don’t have a TimexOneGPS+ watch, than you can go to the www.SoldierMarathon.com go to a link that will allow you to key in the bib number or last name of the runner you wish to follow. It is designed to work with smart phones and computers.

Ken and I are planning on running in the Soldier Marathon next year, hope we will live through it. We are talking about doing all the runs, Airforce, Marines, and Navy. We think it would be a fun way to show are support for those that sacrifice so much for our safety each day; they are all heroes in my eyes.
So what do you think would you like to see if you can do this? I think you can. If you haven’t been training for a run like this yet then you can plan on training in order to do it next year. I hope you try it is always good to push your limits, that’s when you see what you are really made of. Hope to see you there.

When are son went into the army we had some dog tag charms made to give to family and friends, as a reminder to pray for him. With these two verses our family picked for a blessing on him. Here are the verses we picked.
2 Samuel 22:3-4
3) The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; thou savest me from violence.
4) I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
